If we mention the name of one of the circuits, we will definitely remember events or actions from unforgettable riders, such as the Laguna Seca circuit: there was Stoner and Rossi (even repeated with Rossi-Marquez).. The Assen circuit had Rossi and Marquez. . etc. BTW: Assen celebrates its 100th birthday in 2025, but this circuit located in the Netherlands has secured its place on the MotoGP and WSBK calendars until 2031. Assen has been a fixture on the motorbike racing calendar since its inaugural season in 1949, but the Dutch GP in 2020 it was canceled due to the health crisis.
“We are very pleased to announce Assen’s long-term contract on the calendar. It was part of the first Grand Prix season in 1949 and no other place has raced with us in the 75 years we celebrate in 2024,” said Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta.
Assen Extends MotoGP and Superbike Contracts Until 2031
Carmelo Ezpeleta added that Assen was very unique, but Dorna didn’t come back just to look at history or statistics. Racing at Assen, even 100 years after the first race was held in the region, is still something special and only gets better.
“This is a fantastic and modern venue that continues to bring us extraordinary races and iconic moments, and there is no better combination than the most exciting sporting race in the world at one of its biggest venues,” concluded the Spanish Dorna boss.
Arjan Bos (head of TT Circuit Assen) said, “We are very happy with this contract extension, especially now that MotoGP is growing rapidly. This confirms that the status of the Assen circuit remains a highlight in the MotoGP calendar. They are proud and want to continue building the future of the motorsport championship together..
With the MotoGP calendar now recording a record 21 series, in the end the addition of new events will come at the expense of the existing European series. As per tradition, this year’s Dutch TT will take place on the last weekend in June.
