Fabio Quartararo : Finished 12th? I Expected Worse Than That!

RiderTua.com – Ahead of the American GP, Yamaha succeeded in extending Fabio Quartararo’s contract until the end of the 2026 season. Even though he only finished 12th in Sunday’s race at COTA, El Diablo has positive feelings for the future. “We tried a lot of things throughout the weekend. Even in the race it was like I started with a bike that I didn’t understand. We can draw good conclusions from that,” said the 24 year old rider.

Quartararo’s start to the race did not go smoothly. “Unfortunately I ran wide at Turn 12 on the first lap,” he said. Which resulted in him losing several positions and even dropping to 20th position.

While teammate Alex Rins remained in the top 10 at the start of the race, Quartararo tried to catch up. This saw him cross the finish line in 12th position 22.899 seconds behind winner Maverick Vinales (Aprilia). “I expected a worse result. My speed was not good, but the tire wear was not as bad as I had previously feared,” said the rider from Nice, France.

Currently El Diablo is ranked 12th (19 points) in the World Championship and is the best rider from the Japanese manufacturer. But he didn’t care about this list of results. Quartararo revealed that his mindset was not on race results, but on improving the bike. Of course it’s not easy. Quartararo is a winner and he wants to win. But they have to take the positive side.

“Now we need new parts to improve further. Cal Crutchlow will test before the Jerez GP. After the Le Mans GP we will train for 2 days at Mugello. It will be a busy month for us. The good thing is that we know what we are needed. Because we missed the same thing in all three races. But this weekend was extraordinary because we tried a lot of things,” concluded Quartararo.
