RiderTua.com – Sometimes the popularity of electric cars in Indonesia is still questioned by most people. Because sales are increasing, some say it is due to current trends in the global market. There are also those who say that most electric cars are bought because they follow existing trends. In fact, more and more consumers are buying it because it is a necessity.
Indeed, electric cars have been quite popular in Indonesia in the last two years. Moreover, the number of locally assembled models continues to increase every year, making more and more consumers interested in buying them. It is not uncommon for many people to buy models such as the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Wuling Air EV-Binguo EV, and Chery Omoda E5 because the prices are quite affordable.
However, what is still being debated is whether this large number of enthusiasts is just because there is a trend in the market. Because some people think that most BEV car buyers are consumers who follow trends or FOMO (fear of missing out). So those who buy this type of model don’t want to be left behind by existing trends in the four-wheeled market.
Despite this debate, actually if you look at the used car market, there are still very few electric cars for sale here. This means that not most of the BEV models purchased are sold directly in the market, because the buyers are still using them as cars for daily activities. Not only that, many of them are purchased as second cars for consumers.
So it can be said that electric cars are still widely needed, and most do not follow existing trends, aka FOMO. However, who knows whether the decreasing trend in Europe and America will also affect the market in Indonesia. But so far there has been no sharp decline in sales, instead there has been an increase of up to 10 thousand units sold over the past year
At least for now, because sales can drop drastically without any warning. Unless it happens due to problems with market conditions.
