Toyota has Many Choices of Hybrid Cars in Indonesia
Of several car brands in Indonesia, Toyota is the manufacturer with the largest number of hybrid cars sold. Even though most of them are imported or CBU cars, two of them have been produced locally and are the best sellers, namely the Kijang Innova Zenix and Yaris Cross HEV. Its sales performance was also quite good in the last year.
Meanwhile, Toyota has a very limited line-up of electric cars in Indonesia. Even if there is, that’s only the bZ4X being sold here, and the model is imported directly from Japan. Toyota admits that it is now focusing on developing the hybrid car market first because this type of car has more advantages compared to electric cars.

Hybrid cars are preferred by Indonesian consumers because they don’t have to worry about having to charge the battery. Even for PHEV cars, this type of car can still rely on its petrol engine if the battery runs out of power on the road. Meanwhile, electric cars need to be charged so they can be used again after being driven.
Apart from that, the resale price of hybrid cars is still quite good when compared to electric cars. Maybe developing the market is a bit difficult, especially with BEV cars which are not yet an option for first-time buyers. Hybrid cars are also known for their better fuel efficiency than conventional or ICE (internal combustion engine) cars.
