Toyota Fortuner Now Presents a Hybrid Variant

RiderTua.com – The Toyota Fortuner is still the mainstay in the ladder frame SUV segment in Indonesia until now. It’s just that this model has the potential to get an environmentally friendly variant, like the Hilux which will get a BEV variant. So Toyota presents the Fortuner with a hybrid engine. It’s just that this hybrid variant is a mild hybrid, and even then the model has just been launched in South Africa.

Toyota Launches Fortuner with Hybrid Engine in South Africa

Even though it is known as an SUV with a diesel engine, of course that doesn’t mean that the Fortuner can’t have an environmentally friendly variant. Toyota can even combine a 2,800 cc diesel engine with a 48V hybrid system, resulting in a new variant called the Fortuner 48V. This technology is also applied to the Hilux Hybrid which was also released with the ladder frame SUV model.

It’s just that this hybrid technology is still a mild hybrid, but at least this is enough to provide better fuel efficiency and produce fewer emissions. Like the way the hybrid system works in other Toyota cars, the car engine contributes power to the generator to charge the battery. Then the battery can produce improvements in acceleration, power and car efficiency.

Sold in Global Market?

Toyota uses a battery that is quite small and placed in the back seat, and this is also done with the generator. Of course, this aims to ensure that the hybrid components do not add additional weight to the car. Usually hybrid or electric technology components can increase the weight of the car, and it is feared that this could affect its performance and efficiency, especially for cars like the Fortuner.

With this hybrid engine, the Fortuner 48V is capable of producing 150 kW of power and 500 Nm of torque. Toyota provides a start-stop system, which allows the car to turn off the engine when stopped for a long time. This variant has only just been presented in South Africa at a price of around IDR 709 million to IDR 826 million, but it does not rule out the possibility that Toyota can sell it on the global market.
