RiderTua.com – No one expected, newcomer to the MT Helmets – MSI team, Sergio Garcia (Boscoscuro) managed to lead the Moto2 World Championship standings after the first 3 races of the 2024 season with 51 points. After achieving his first Moto2 podium in Qatar (finishing 3rd), the Spanish rider celebrated his first victory in the middle class in Texas America.
“I’ve never scored points before on this track. I always think about winning during the race,” said Garcia. Currently he is in 2nd place, only 5 points adrift of standings leader Joe Roberts (American Racing).
Sergio Garcia : I’m Not on Any Team’s Radar Yet!

Last year, Sergio Garcia entered the Moto2 World Championship as Moto3 runner-up. With results several times in the top 10 and ranking 15th at the World Championships, he managed to get the Rookie of the Year title. However, he also recorded 6 crashes in the race. For this reason and because Garcia is moving from Kalex to Boscoscuro in 2024, the 21-year-old rider is not yet considered a favorite for the title.
From 3rd position on the grid, Garcia took the lead on the first lap and was able to maintain it throughout the race. However, a number of brakes at Turn 11 ensured that the competition became tighter with the Spaniard. At the finish, he was only 0.492 seconds ahead of Joe Roberts who finished 2nd at COTA.
Garcia explained that the race was very difficult. “Starting from lap 10 onwards, I had problems with the gearbox. My bike went into neutral three or four times. That made my race much more difficult,” he said.
Garcia can certainly understand that he is considered an underdog. “In the last 6 months I experienced a lot of crashes and failed to score points several times. So I’m not necessarily on the radar for 2024. But the team helped me a lot to develop. I also worked hard and focused on myself to stay here,” concluded Sergio Garcia .
