Toyota Regarding the Potential to Assemble Hilux in Indonesia
Sales of double cabin pickup cars in Indonesia are still quite good, with the Toyota Hilux still leading sales so far. Even with its stiff competition, the Hilux still holds the top spot in its segment from the Mitsubishi Triton and Isuzu D-Max. Although this model is not produced locally, it is imported directly from Thailand.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian government advised Toyota, Mitsubishi and Isuzu to assemble the d-cab pickup cars they sell here. Toyota itself already knows about this, but they cannot confirm whether the Hilux can be assembled locally. Of course, producing it is not an easy thing considering the market does not have as high demand as other segments.
7-Seater Car
Toyota emphasized that the production center for pkap d-cab cars is still centered in Thailand, while Indonesia is more focused on the production of 7-seater cars, especially MPV and SUV models. Models such as the Avanza, Kijang Innova and Fortuner are assembled here and record sales that are much higher than the Hilux. Not to mention the market demand in each segment which is also very high.
In order to be able to assemble the Hilux in Indonesia, Toyota needs a wider global market reach. It doesn’t sound so easy, considering that half of the Hiluxes produced worldwide are donated by Thailand. Apart from Thailand, the United States is also another production location, although they also assemble models such as the Tacoma and Tundra.
Like the base model, the Hilux Rangga is also imported directly from abroad. Indeed, Toyota does not want to take the wrong step and risk reducing its sales.
