RiderTua.com – Marc Marquez bravely fought to overtake Jorge Martin and Pedro Acosta to lead the race at COTA. However, his first experience of leading a race on a Ducati bike did not last long, the Gresini rider slipped into the gravel at turn 11 and ended his dream of celebrating his long-awaited victory.

Marquez started the race by losing his winglet when he came into contact with Jack Miller (Red Bull KTM), then dramatically touched Martin and staggered but he still tried to stay upright to continue the race.

While laughing, Michael Laverty said, “I think he wanted all the winglets to be removed (when in contact with the opponent’s bike), before reaching the halfway mark of the race. He continued to make contact and then lost the left sidepod. He wanted to win, pushed a little (push) the front of the bike (which ultimately caused it to crash).”

“But his aggressiveness was very clear. It was extraordinary to watch his actions overtaking, bumping, contacting each other. This encouraged Marc to do even more actions. Unfortunately he fell because he pushed too much on the front tire. In the end he slipped and that’s what happened.”

Laverty added, “Marc will not feel any loss or curiosity about this incident for the next race. He will like this kind of battle, as does Pedro. He wants to win. He was confident, in the early laps. When he made contact with Jack and losing the winglet, I was thinking ‘it’s going to be a tough few laps’ But he was making maneuvers and he was moving forward, being creative with his overtaking moves.”

“He is starting to understand how this GP23 can maximize its advantages. He will be on the podium if he makes it to the finish line. But unfortunately he is too confident in his Michelin front tire,” he added.

Unexpectedly, even though he started from pole position, Maverick Vinales, who had slipped to 11th position at the first corner, actually won the American GP. Behind the Aprilia rider, sensational rookie Pedro Acosta (GasGas Tech3) finished 2nd and Enea Bastianini (Ducati Lenovo) 3rd on the podium.

Unfortunately, Marc Marquez failed to win the sprint or main race in Texas, a circuit where he previously dominated by recording 7 wins while still with Honda. Currently the 31 year old rider is in 8th place, 44 points behind standings leader Jorge Martin, after the first 3 series of the 2024 season.
