Nissan and Mitsubishi to Develop BEV Pickup Cars?

RiderTua.com – Both Nissan and Mitsubishi already have flagship electric cars in their markets. There are even twin models, for example the Sakura and eK X EV which were launched about two years ago in Japan. It turns out that the collaboration between the two is not only limited to kei cars, with Nissan again collaborating with Mitsubishi to make other electric cars. This time it is a pickup car targeted at the United States market.

Nissan Again Collaborates with Mitsubishi to Work on Electric Cars

Even though they have entered into the Nissan-Mitsubishi-Renault alliance, the two Japanese brands can still work together. Both of them can develop electric cars in the form of the kei car Sakura and eK But they don’t want to stop there and are currently preparing other models of collaboration.

This time Nissan and Mitsubishi plan to make a purely electric pickup truck. There are still not many cars of this type on the global market, but there are already manufacturers selling them, such as Tesla with the Cybertruck and the Ford F-150 Lightning. Both have only just been sold in the United States, the country that became the main destination for Nissan and Mitsubishi after releasing their electric pickup.

Compete with Toyota and Isuzu

Although actually there are also Japanese brands that develop this type of car, namely Toyota and Isuzu. In fact, both of them have confirmed that they will produce the Hilux Electric and D-Max Electric starting next year in Thailand. It’s just that for Nissan-Mitsubishi, they will only be able to do it around 2027 and 2031.

Indeed, there is still quite a long time to wait for the arrival of a pickup car from Nissan-Mitsubishi. Not to mention that competitors are starting to present their newest products first, and they have the potential to be left even further behind. Although this has a positive side, namely that they can see developments in the BEV pickup market, and adjust the model according to existing demand.

Meanwhile, Toyota and Isuzu are preparing to produce their electric pickup cars in Thailand. Of course, only this country will get it first, although other countries such as Indonesia could be considered.
