Hybrid cars are still one type of environmentally friendly car that is sought after by Indonesian consumers. Even if sales are compared with electric cars, the difference is quite large, where the HEV model can sell more than 50 thousand units, while the BEV model has only reached 10 thousand units. Of course, this is because consumers are still looking for environmentally friendly cars at more affordable prices.
Suzuki is one of those selling cheap hybrid cars in Indonesia, and its sales are quite good. With the Ertiga and XL7 Hybrid, both are able to contribute higher sales compared to conventional models. It’s just that now the environmentally friendly car market is getting tighter with many new competitors.
Presenting the Best Quality Cars
Since two years ago, more and more manufacturers have been selling environmentally friendly cars, whether hybrid, plug-in hybrid (PHEV), or electric. Brands such as Neta and BYD are starting to present their respective superior BEV models, and at quite competitive prices. Seeing this, Suzuki feels that the presence of new brands in Indonesia has not bothered him so far.
Apart from that, the presence of BYD et al will not immediately disrupt sales of hybrid cars, obviously because electric cars and hybrids are very different, from specifications to market. The market share for environmentally friendly cars is still dominated by hybrid cars, so currently BEV cars cannot catch up with hybrid car sales. At least for now, until manufacturers can provide the best quality cars at even more affordable prices.
