Chery Omoda 5 Withdrawn in Malaysia After Accident
As is known, the recall of the Omoda 5 in Malaysia was carried out after an incident occurred when the rear axle broke on this SUV. In fact, one of the owners said that they were not going on a bumpy or rocky road, but suddenly the car just stopped. After investigation, the car was towed for immediate repair.
Chery realized that this was not the first time the car had experienced this problem, but it had happened twice there. Obviously they have to deal with it immediately before it’s too late, by withdrawing 600 Omoda 5 units in Malaysia. Next, they carried out an investigation to find the cause of the broken rear axle.
Other Countries Are Not Affected
After several days, Chery found the source of the problem, namely replacing the old welding tip with a new one. Due to a calibration error in the equipment, the rear axle part was not welded properly, so that part could break by itself. So it could be said that this is an error in the assembly.
But as previously explained, the withdrawal of Omoda 5 is only carried out in Malaysia and will not spread to other countries, including Indonesia. Because the unit is assembled locally there, while Indonesia already has its own assembled model. Although Chery will continue to monitor its condition, if similar problems can be found in the production process.
