Joan Mir : Brutal..! Marc Marquez hits Joan Mir and Oliveira

RiderTua.com – The MotoGP sprint at Jerez was full of turmoil. 15 riders crashed and in the afternoon there were time penalties for 5 riders. Joan Mir suddenly became Honda’s best rider after Johann Zarco (LCR) crashed at the last corner. By finishing 9th, Mir was able to get at least 1 point in his home race with Repsol Honda.

“Honestly, it was a bit unfair. I started very well. I got into contact at turn 2 and lost the position. Then I was able to break away from the group. Then I overtook the group with Miguel Oliveira. Then I was behind Raul Fernandez and then I wanted to “Preparing to attack at the finish line, Marc then came at the last corner and hit me. As a result, I lost 4 positions,” said the 2020 MotoGP World Champion while still on Suzuki.

Joan Mir continued, “But that wasn’t enough. Then Marc did the same thing to Miguel Oliveira and also pushed him out. The last time I got a penalty was at Portimao in the 2023 sprint. At that time I overtook Fabio and dropped him, I also fell at that time. Fabio lost position, I crashed. Then the Stewards gave me a double long lap penalty for the race.”

“Marc overtook me, he didn’t fall, but I lost 4 positions. But he only gave up one position…” said Mir annoyed, because he just wanted to understand how this happened…

Luca Marini’s teammate revealed that he was not against Marc’s maneuver. If Marc waits 3 seconds then he can overtake Mir on the straight track. “I can’t understand it. OK, if we were fighting for the podium then yes. But it’s unbelievable how Stewarts evaluates everything and gives penalties. I like overtaking even if there’s a bump because it’s very difficult with winglets at the moment. A little bump is fine. But the other thing is that we are pushing opponents who are going in front of us. Stewards have to see it in a completely different way, I can’t understand it!” explained Joan Mir.

Mir also commented on track conditions on Saturday at Jerez. He said that maybe it wasn’t seen on TV and couldn’t understand why so many riders crashed. However, there was a wet area at Turn 5. Mir saw these wet areas during the sighting lap. These points are exactly on the racing line. The same thing happened at Turn 8. It could be that Mir gets the top 6 position today because his bike feels better.

After the Sprint in Jerez, Joan Mir is now the best of the 4 Honda riders in the World Championship standings by ranking 16th with 8 points.
