It’s just that not all segments can be controlled, especially with the many strong competitors that exist here. Like in the ladder frame SUV segment, where the Toyota Fortuner was outperformed by the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport in the first two months of this year. However, last March, Toyota regained its top position.
Toyota is Superior to Mitsubishi in the Ladder Frame SUV Segment Again
As previously explained, the Fortuner actually has quite strong dominance in the ladder frame SUV segment. It’s just that this Toyota car has to face its toughest rival, namely the Pajero Sport, even though sales during the last two months of this year were outperformed by the Mitsubishi SUV model. It was proven that in January and February, the Fortuner sold 1,027 units and 1,047 units, while the Pajero Sport sold up to 1,250 units and 1,198 units.
However, in the end the Fortuner managed to take the top position in its segment with 1,580 units sold, while the Pajero Sport only recorded results of 1,350 units. If you look, there is an increase in sales compared to the previous two months, and that is already a good result. However, if calculated as a whole, Pajero Sport still leads sales of ladder frame SUVs in Indonesia from Fortuner, selling up to 3,798 units and 3,654 units respectively.
Competition Between Three Brands
Indeed, the difference in sales between each other is very small, considering that both of them have competed quite tightly in their markets so far. Although if you look, it’s not just the Fortuner and Pajero Sport in this segment, because there are still other models such as the Isuzu MU-X. But with its sales performance so far, the MU-X can barely catch up with its competitors.
Still, the ladder frame SUV market is still developing well in Indonesia. While the Fortuner and Pajero Sport compete with each other to become the best-selling model in their segment, their competitors are slowly starting to enter the segment.
