Toyota Wants to Take Car Electrification Seriously in Indonesia

RiderTua.com – Toyota has still been the leader in car sales in Indonesia for the last few years. It’s just that sales of electric cars are still not optimal, especially as the models offered are still very limited. So Toyota is starting to get serious about electrifying its cars. They will try to become the leader in BEV car sales.

Toyota is Starting to Get Serious About Electrifying its Cars

Regarding electric cars, the market is still dominated by brands from outside Japan such as Hyundai and Wuling. Of course, this makes it quite difficult for brands like Toyota to catch up with sales of these two brands, especially with the competition which is quite tight. Not to mention they don’t have a locally assembled model that is sold at an affordable price.

Not wanting to be left behind any further, Toyota decided to immediately take car electrification more seriously. They will present more BEV models in Indonesia in the next few years, and are pursuing a target of 2026. At that time, electric car sales are targeted to exceed tens of thousands of units.

Limited Models

Toyota says they have 30 EV models to launch by 2030, and some of them will be sold in Indonesia. However, in order to sell it here, they have to do market research first, and this usually takes a long time. Not to mention determining the selling price, if the model is imported from abroad, the price will be quite expensive.

In fact, before selling the bZ4X, Toyota showed a concept model of the Kijang Innova EV. Because it is still a concept, the model is still being perfected first, and that includes other tests. They also did not confirm whether this medium MPV car could be sold or not.

What is clear is that the Japanese brand has shown that it is serious about selling electric cars. But for now they are still hampered by the limited models sold.
