RiderTua.com – Finishing outside the top 10 in Qatar, Joan Mir heads to the second series of the 2024 MotoGP season in Portimao with the belief that he can do more on the Algarve circuit. The 26 year old rider started his second season with Repsol Honda by finishing in 15th position and as the top Honda rider in the Qatar sprint race. Then narrowly lost to Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha) and his brand colleague Johann Zarco (LCR) by finishing in 13th position in the main race at the Lusail circuit.
But Portimao will really be different from Qatar, like night and day. Mir predicts a stronger weekend at the Portuguese GP. “I can’t wait to get back on a bike and continue the work we started in Qatar,” said the rider from Mallorca, Spain, who is now working with Marc Marquez’s former crew, Santi Hernandez.
Joan Mir added, “There’s a lot of work to do, but after starting well on a track that’s not our best, I’m confident we can do more in Portugal. It’s a track I enjoy and I think we have more potential in there. Ready to make progress, ready to work and ready to have another positive race weekend with the new Honda RC213V.”
When asked about expectations after the first series of the season in Qatar, Luca Marini’s teammate said, “Last year we had the same package all year and to be honest this was very difficult to manage mentally. This year I expected changes. Now I see these changes and I hope they continue in this mode.”
