BYD Threatened with Suing from BMW Because of Its Car Name?

Just like BMW did to him, threatening to sue him because of the name of his car.

BYD and its Electric Cars Sued by BMW

This may sound surprising, although sometimes brands from their country of origin are known to copy designs from models sold abroad. This electric hatchback car was targeted by BMW because it used the name ‘Mini’ on its car. Of course, BMW already had a patent on the ‘Mini’ brand, so they sued BYD before they could sell it there. Not to mention that the Dolphin Mini and Mini Cooper EV are both electric-powered hatchbacks, but the BYD car is superior in terms of its more affordable selling price.

Changing the Name

Meanwhile, the agent for the BYD brand in Australia, EVDirect, admitted that they had not received any news regarding the lawsuit from BMW over the Dolphin Mini. They even said that the name of this newest hatchback candidate for sale here has not yet been decided. I don’t know whether this is so that the model is better known in the market or whether it already knows this will happen.

If BMW really wants to sue it, BYD could actually use its original name, namely Seagull. Please note that the Dolphin Mini is actually a Seagull, both in the form of a hatchback but with a Lamborghini car-style exterior design. Of course this is not surprising, because the former designer for cars from the Italian brand also worked on this model.

I don’t know how the lawsuit will proceed, whether BMW will do it soon or not at all.
