RiderTua.com – The Honda CR-V has entered its newest generation model since last year. This SUV remains one of the mainstays in global sales to this day, especially now that a hybrid version is being offered. As if not yet satisfied, Honda is presenting a hydrogen fuel cell variant for the CR-V. However, this variant can only be sold in North America.
Honda CR-V Now Presents Hydrogen Fuel Cell Variant
As previously known, the CR-V actually already has a hybrid or e:HEV variant which is its mainstay in a number of countries. Indonesia is no exception, where sales of this variant are far greater than petrol engine or ICE (internal combustion engine) variants. Even though Honda brought it directly from Thailand, it was sold for more than IDR 800 million.
Successfully launching its hybrid variant, Honda then presented another environmentally friendly variant, this time hydrogen fuel cell or FCEV. The technology it uses was developed with General Motors (GM), which consists of an electric motor, hydrogen tank, battery and fuel cell. The electric motor can produce 174 hp of power and 311 Nm of torque.

Only in the United States
The CR-V FCEV is the first car in the United States to combine a hydrogen tank with a plug-in battery. This technology allows cars to rely on pure electric power when they run out of hydrogen fuel on the road. So it can answer the problem of limited supporting infrastructure such as hydrogen refueling stations there.
Regarding its appearance, unlike the current generation model, the CR-V looks different with a fascia design that at first glance is without fog lights. However, this new design makes it easier to differentiate it from the ICE and e:HEV versions.
Currently, Honda only provides it as a rental car in the United States. But in the future they will sell it in Japan, perhaps to replace the Clarity’s role as a hydrogen car.
