RiderTua.com – MotoGP rider score at COTA: Marquez 5, Acosta 10.. Rookie Pedro Acosta ‘s stunning performance at the American GP was truly impressive. How could it not be, the GasGas Tech3 rider bravely dueled against a number of top riders so he was able to achieve his second podium on his MotoGP debut. Apart from that, Maverick Vinales (Aprilia)’s strong comeback to celebrate the victory was also truly extraordinary. The 2024 season of COTA racing was also marked by the number of riders who crashed.
And here are the scores of each MotoGP rider in their appearance at COTA 2024:
- Maverick Vinales – 10
Previously, Vinales considered his victory in the Portimao sprint to be his best performance since joining Aprilia. But the 28-year-old rider’s performance in the sprint at COTA was much more impressive. The Spanish rider dominated every lap after breaking the lap record with a time of 2 minutes 01 seconds for the first time in Q2. In Sunday’s main race, Vinales was forced to work hard as he was pushed off track and dropped to 11th at the first corner, but he put in the best race of his career to get back on track. Vinales secured victory in the race after overtaking Acosta on the 13th lap.

MotoGP Rider Score at COTA: Marquez 5, Acosta 10
- Pedro Acosta – 10
After occupying his first front row in qualifying, Acosta again performed impressively and was able to finish in 4th place in the sprint. After performing strongly in qualifying and the sprint, the rider from Murcia, Spain, performed again sensationally in the main race. He finished 2nd and was the most consistent contender to win the race. - Enea Bastianini – 8.5
Like teammate Pecco Bagnaia, Enea Bastianini started to fall back before moving forward in the sprint as a rear tire problem saw him miss out on a top-5 position. Only Vinales had a better final race pace than top manager Carlo Pernat’s protégé as he claimed a second successive grand prix podium. - Jorge Martin – 8.5
Martin crashed twice on his opening fast lap in qualifying, but his performance in the sprint was more or less the same as in Qatar and Portimao as he maintained his 100% podium record in 2024 to finish in 3rd place. The podium was in front of Martin’s eyes, lost when he made a mistake two laps from the end of the race, allowing Bastianini, who had more speed, to qualify. - Pecco Bagnaia – 7
Starting from 4th position, Francesco Bagnaia positioned himself well to get satisfactory results in the sprint. But a poor start was just a tough start for the reigning champion in the 10-lap race. Rear grip problems prevented Pecco from reaching his usual pace as he only finished 8th. Fast at the start of the 20 lap race, the factory Ducati rider showed podium potential before finally finishing 5th. Not the weekend he wanted as Martin, Vinales, Acosta and Bastianini all got points from him. - Fabio Di Giannantonio – 7
After giving up the first lap in the sprint race due to technical problems, Diggia was able to make up for it by securing a very solid P6 in Sunday’s race. - Aleix Espargaro – 7
As was the case in the opening sprint of the year in Qatar, Aleix Espargaro showed impressive pace as the race progressed, finishing 5th. In the 20 lap race, the 34 year old rider was again beaten by Vinales when he only finished in 7th position. - Marco Bezzecchi – 6.5
Marco Bezzecchi’s strongest weekend in the 2024 season. The VR46 rider appeared strong as a rider who often fights at the front in 2023. However, Bez only managed to finish 8th in the main race. - Brad Binder – 6
Overshadowed again by Pedro Acosta, Brad Binder endured a nightmare at COTA compared to his title rivals. The Red Bull KTM rider only finished 9th in the grand prix and 12th in the sprint. - Raul Fernandez – 7
For the second time in as many races, the Aprilia Trackhouse rider managed to finish in the top 10 this season. - Miguel Oliveira – 6
Finishing in 11th position in both races, Oliveira hopes to do even better in the team’s home race. The rider from Portugal was also the last of the 4 Aprilia in both races at COTA. - Jack Miller – 6
Initially, Miller was a podium contender, but the KTM rider suffered the biggest tire drop when he suffered serious damage. - Fabio Quartararo – 6
The top rider on a Japanese bike, Quartararo showed consistent pace but it was not enough to get close to the top 10. - Franco Morbidelli – 6
After a strong sprint, Morbidelli looked poised for another strong result. However, the Pramac rider was knocked out early, thereby increasing his points tally. - Marc Marquez – 5
Marquez returned to the podium in the sprint. Even though his performance was very strong in the sprint, the Gresini rider did not have the same speed as Vinales who broke his resistance on the third lap. Looking to catch 2nd place in the sprint, Marquez looked set to challenge for victory before crashing out while leading at turn 11. - Augusto Fernández – 4
On a day where teammate Acosta put in yet another outstanding performance, Fernandez struggled to make the same impression. The same thing happens after being knocked out of a sprint. - Alex Marquez – 4
An unforgettable weekend for Marc Marquez’s younger brother, Alex finishing the sprint in 14th position before crashing in the main race. The Gresini rider remounted to claim P15. - Luca Marini – 4
The rider who finished last, Marini was 33 seconds behind the winner and was the only Honda rider to finish in both races in a row. - Alex Rins – 3
Like Marc who failed to finish, as winner of last year’s American GP, Rins had a difficult weekend on the Yamaha YZR-M1. - Johann Zarco – 3
Worst weekend for Honda. Zarco also failed to finish after withdrawing from the race due to technical problems. In the sprint, the LCR rider also crashed. - Joan Mir – 2.5
Mir also failed to finish both races in Texas. - Takaaki Nakagami – 2.5
Like Mir, Nakagami wants to forget COTA as soon as he was eliminated in both races.
