RiderTua.com – At the Qatar GP this weekend, Pedro Acosta (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3) will make his MotoGP debut. “I’m looking forward to starting a season that will be very special for me. This is my first year in MotoGP, with a team that has built a good relationship with me from the start,” said the 19-year-old rookie looking forward to the start of the World Championship at Qatar’s Lusail circuit.
What can help the 2023 Moto2 world champion in his first race weekend as a MotoGP rider? A 2-day test in Qatar two weeks ago gave him the opportunity to gain experience with the RC16 at the Lusail Circuit and take part in the set-up work.
“The test in Qatar helped us a lot regarding the first race of the season, we have a good feeling. Our target is to continue to adapt and little by little understand how the bike works,” said Acosta.
Pedro Acosta : If We are in Top 10, We can Fight for Podium or Victory

Pedro Acosta deliberately did not want to reveal any specific targets for his debut. When Pedro and Tech3 press officer Mathilde Poncharal chatted on the sidelines of the Qatar test, it was revealed that the newcomer from Spain’s Mazarron has the confidence to get closer to his more senior and more experienced colleagues at Pierer Group.
“I think we can stay in the Brad Binder area in the top 10, 10th, 11th, 12th, in that area. We are faster in terms of speed, but we are still missing something in the fast laps and this is quite normal in our situation,” said Acosta, referring to his position at the Qatar test in 15th position, 1.094 seconds behind defending champion Pecco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo).
Acosta is aware, especially with the current MotoGP format, where only the practice session on Friday afternoon determines direct entry into Q2, his chances really depend on qualifying performance and the resulting starting position. “If we are in the top 10, we can fight for the podium or victory,” concluded Augusto Fernandez’s new teammate.
