Toyota Doesn’t Have an ‘Entry Level’ Hybrid Car Yet
Of several brands in Indonesia, Toyota has the largest line-up of hybrid cars. Especially regarding sales, where the Innova Zenix and Yaris Cross HEV have successfully become the best-selling HEV models in the last few months. However, they don’t yet have a hybrid car with a price cheaper than the Yaris Cross HEV, or it could be said to be an entry level car.
In fact, Toyota could be further behind its competitors if it doesn’t present this type of car. Because brands like Suzuki have already presented hybrid cars at affordable prices, namely the Ertiga and XL7 Hybrid, even though they are mild hybrid cars. But both can sell quite well in their markets, even though neither the LSUV nor LMPV segments have other models, at least for now.
More Competitors
Mitsubishi is known to be bringing the Xpander HEV to Indonesia, and may also include an environmentally friendly version of the Xpander Cross. Toyota should be able to do something similar with the Avanza or Rush, but they don’t want to rush into it. Because everything must be planned carefully so that the product can be accepted in the market.
Apart from that, Toyota will still strive to present environmentally friendly cars at more affordable prices in Indonesia. Although for now they are still waiting for the right time to do it. Even though this means they will be left behind by their competitors.
