RiderTua.com – Marc Marquez tries the thumb brake on the left handlebar of the Ducati GP23 at Monday’s test at Jerez. The Gresini rider explained, “For 12 years I have been used to braking in one way, it is difficult to adapt in just 1 day. I have tried various things. We will not use thumb brakes at Le Mans.”
Baby Alien added that he prefers to use the foot brake because he has the right sensitivity. But Marc still wanted to test the thumb brake because Martin and Pecco used it.
Marc Marquez Tests Thumb Brake for the First Time

Ducati team manager Davide Tardozzi explains the main items tested by Marc Marquez. “Marc never uses the thumb rear brake. Even though we believe, this is important for riding a Ducati, especially in the acceleration phase to control the bike. We have given Marc enough data to be able to understand why and how to use the bike better when accelerating, ” said the 65 year old former rider.
After Monday’s Jerez test, Marquez claimed that he could now be more precise in providing input to Ducati engineers.
The 8-time world champion first drove the Desmosedici at the post-season test in Valencia last November. Now Marc has taken part in pre-season tests twice and raced in the first 4 series of the 2024 season. Monday’s Jerez test was the first season test that the Gresini rider took part in this year.
A day after his epic duel against defending champion Pecco Bagnaia, which he lost, it could be a very important day in Marquez’s season.
The freedom to take part in testing test items that are routinely used by Bagnaia and Jorge Martin, who are riders who ride the GP24 and are the top two in the current MotoGP standings, clearly justifies Marquez’s reasons for moving to Ducati. Marquez is waiting for his first win since leaving Honda. This is not a grandiose thing considering that he has always consistently fought at the front in the first 4 series of MotoGP 2024.
At the Le Mans GP in 2 weeks, Marc will race using the foot brake as usual, not the thumb brake that he tested at Jerez. But also using data collected on its new engine from a full day of testing at Jerez.
