The model he will assemble for the first time is the e-C3, an electric SUV that has been his mainstay for some time. Indeed, Citroen will assemble its first car, as well as its first electric car in Indonesia. But this also means there is a chance the model could be exported abroad.
Citroen will Assemble Its Cars in Indonesia
Sales of Citroen cars in Indonesia have just started again after being absent for decades. But at least now they are bringing more of the SUV models they excel in the C-series, including electric cars. The e-C3 is one of two BEV models it sells here besides the e-C4, but it is sold at an affordable price.
In fact, the e-C3 is still imported directly from India in CBU form. Even so, Citroen decided not to depend too much on imports and wanted to assemble it locally, of course to meet domestic demand. They target to assemble the e-C3 in Indonesia starting July 2024.
Can They Get Incentives?
Of course, if an electric car is produced, there is a chance that the model could receive electric car incentives from the government. But to be able to get it, the car must have a domestic component content level of more than 40 percent. Citroen will aim to increase local components on the e-C3 in the future.
With the e-C3 being produced in Indonesia, Citroen can also export it abroad. They admitted that they would also work on it, but for now the focus is increasing the local component of e-C3 so they can get incentives. So the model can be sold more affordably than the CBU model, even though currently the price is quite affordable for an electric SUV.
