RiderTua.com – Brands like Daihatsu should be able to start electrification in Indonesia. Whether it’s bringing hybrid or electric cars or assembling them, they still haven’t done it until now for a number of reasons. Meanwhile, Perodua will do it before Daihatsu starting next year. But they had mentioned that they would also start it in the same year.
Daihatsu Hasn’t Started Electrification in Indonesia
Toyota itself has started the electrification of its cars in Indonesia with the bZ4X, but overall they started more than 10 years ago with the Prius. This clearly makes Daihatsu far behind its parent company. In fact, they have a number of HEV to BEV models abroad, although some of them are kei cars.
Meanwhile in Malaysia, Perodua announced that it will start car electrification starting in 2025. Of course, this is marked by the start of assembly of its electric cars there, although it is not yet clear what models it will produce later. In fact, Daihatsu had mentioned that they might do something similar in the same year in Indonesia.

Still Unclear
Daihatsu has displayed concept models of the Ayla EV and Vizion F (using the Gran Max Minibus as a basis). For hybrid cars, the Rocky Hybrid has also been shown before, but until now the model has not been sold here. Maybe they still need time to prepare it, even though the hybrid car market is quite promising, especially with Toyota being the leader in this market.
If there is an Ayla EV Concept, it is possible that Perodua will make a similar sized electric car based on the Myvi. So far there has been no follow-up to this news, especially as details regarding the prospective new BEV model are still unclear. Likewise with Daihatsu’s electrification plan in Indonesia which is said to start next year.
Whatever it is, they are ready to present their electrification products at any time. That also depends on the market conditions here.
