RiderTua.com – Rain spoils the MotoGP test scheduled for Monday in Portimao. Yamaha’s private test with Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins scheduled for Monday in Portimao was interrupted due to bad weather. The Japanese manufacturer is still one step behind the big names and for now the path to the podium is still closed for its two riders.
Monday after yesterday’s race should have been a day of hard work in the Yamaha garage, but the Portimao skies were not kind to Quartararo and Rins. After finishing seventh and thirteenth in the race, rain forced the two riders to reduce the risk of injury due to the track being unfit, by abandoning the test. “The worst conditions for testing. I only did six laps,” said the French rider. Monday was the most unstable day of the MotoGP weekend in Portugal, making it difficult for the Japanese Iwata manufacturer to carry out its plans.
Yamaha Private Test in Portimao Canceled

Even though just on Sunday evening Fabio said.. “It seems that we have many elements to test. It will be extraordinary. We hope that time will allow us to test it.” Unfortunately, nothing happened… because the track conditions did not allow it…
Asked about what innovations Yamaha would try, the 2021 world champion answered… “I don’t know if I can say so I prefer not to say anything…”. The Japanese manufacturer, which has struggled for several years, was able to carry out tests with official riders 24 hours after the MotoGP race in Portimao, as part of new concession rules revised this year. But by completing only six laps due to rain, Yamaha essentially wasted a day of testing opportunities.
Despite the tricky moments, they put on a good performance in Portimao. Fabio Quartararo finished seventh in Sunday’s main race and ninth in the Sprint race, although his goals were very different. The Nice rider’s contract expires at the end of this year and he has openly stated his willingness to explore opportunities elsewhere, aka moving manufacturers. This clearly increases the pressure on Yamaha to convince the French rider to develop his bike. However, it will be difficult to recover the lost strength of European manufacturers in the next few months.
