RiderTua.com – Even though BYD is still relatively new in Indonesia, they have brought three BEV models for sale here. It’s just that they are still bringing it in from abroad for now, while production will follow later. Meanwhile, BYD has been testing the production of its electric cars in Thailand. They assemble the Atto 3 which is one of the mainstays there.

BYD will Soon Assemble its Electric Cars in Southeast Asia

BYD‘s presence in the Southeast Asia region has been around for quite a long time, even though they sell commercial vehicles in the form of electric buses. However, starting in 2022, they will show their seriousness in selling passenger cars, starting in Thailand. A year later, they built a factory which could produce up to 150 thousand cars each year.

Production itself will start next month, and BYD has prepared everything. Including entering the trial production phase of its BEV model in Thailand recently, with the Atto 3 as its first model. If everything goes smoothly, they can speed up meeting demand for their electric SUV.

    Indonesia Follows

Not only Thailand, BYD is also expanding its sales in other countries, such as Malaysia and the Philippines. Indonesia is also included, with sales of Dolphin, Atto 3 and Seal starting last month, although the units are still imported from abroad. But this will only be done temporarily while the factory is being built starting in July.

If there are no obstacles, this new factory will be operational starting in 2026, and it may take two years to build and prepare everything. Even so, BYD is serious about strengthening its sales network in the Southeast Asia region. They are also targeting Australia as an export destination after the factory is completed.

The three electric cars have received a good reception in Indonesia since they were first shown to the public. Even though the price is quite expensive, at least for now.
