RiderTua.com – Aleix Espargaro, the Catalan rider from Aprilia, had high hopes for Sunday’s MotoGP race in Qatar. However, what seemed like a promising start turned into a nightmare as he struggled with grip issues on the rear tire of his bike. Despite his efforts and overtaking maneuvers, Espargaro could only manage an 8th place finish, far from the results he and his team had anticipated.

On Saturday, Espargaro’s bike performed exceptionally well, earning him the nickname “rocket.” He went to bed hoping for a successful race day, but his optimism quickly faded during the warm-up session. He noticed that the rear tire was not providing the desired grip, setting the stage for a challenging race.

Expressing his disappointment, Espargaro shared, “The whole race was a nightmare. I couldn’t do anything. Let’s see if Michelin and the team can find a solution.” He refrained from using strong language to describe the tire’s performance but emphasized that it was not working at all. The contrast between Saturday’s exceptional performance and Sunday’s struggle left him perplexed.

As Espargaro seeks answers, he questions whether his change in racing style could be a contributing factor. However, he remains open to accepting responsibility if the telemetry data supports such claims. He finds it hard to believe that he could record a time half a second faster than Pecco on Saturday, only to finish 11 seconds behind him in the main race on Sunday.

Espargaro also highlights the shift in blame dynamics. In the past, when races were only held on Sundays, riders were often held accountable for poor performance due to lack of speed. However, with the new sprint format on Saturdays, Espargaro demonstrated his competitiveness. Yet, on race day, the bike felt different and abnormal, resulting in a significant performance gap.

The underwhelming performance of Aprilia’s main rider on Sunday was indeed surprising. While the race outcome is unpredictable, it was expected that Espargaro would at least be part of the leading group. However, from the start, he encountered difficulties that hindered his progress.

Now, the racing community eagerly awaits an official explanation that can shed light on Espargaro’s unexpected performance. It is crucial to understand the factors that contributed to his struggles and determine the necessary adjustments to ensure future success.

Despite the disappointment in Qatar, Espargaro remains determined and hopeful for better results in the upcoming races. The collaboration between the team and Michelin will be crucial in identifying and resolving the tire grip issue, allowing Espargaro to showcase his true potential on the track.
