RiderTua.com – Toyota has been quite successful in developing its electric cars in the global automotive market. Especially bZ4X, which has been its mainstay for so long, has been able to record quite good sales results over the last few years. However, the bZ4X is not Toyota’s first electric SUV. Because they have developed an electric-powered RAV4 in the past.
Toyota bZ4X Not Its First Electric SUV
The electric SUV segment is still quite promising for automotive manufacturers around the world, including Toyota. It’s just that they have only sold one model in this market, namely the bZ4X, and even then sales are still quite good. But at least that is enough to contribute to sales of environmentally friendly cars so far.
Maybe some people think that the bZ4X is Toyota’s first electric SUV, although that’s actually not quite right. The model that was ever made an electric version was the RAV4, and that too was the old generation model. Even so, this SUV is one of the first environmentally friendly models that he developed more than two decades ago.

PHEV Version
Initially, the RAV4 EV was presented as a fleet car in 1997, before in 2003 Toyota sold it as a private car. At that time, the model sold 328 units, and 2.2k units from the fleet segment, a fairly high sales figure for its time. Due to limited technology at that time, the RAV4 EV relied on a battery with a capacity of 27.4 kWh which allowed the car to travel as far as 153 km.
However, whether because of poor sales or something, Toyota no longer sells the electric version of the RAV4. However, a plug-in hybrid or PHEV version is now available, and the model has also been sold in Indonesia since last year. Even though Toyota no longer offers this BEV version, Toyota can refine its electric car technology to apply it to other models, such as the bZ4X.
