RiderTua.com – Hybrid cars remain the best-selling type of environmentally friendly car in Indonesia over the past year. Last year alone, sales reached more than 50k units, most of which were contributed by locally assembled models. The line-up of hybrid cars also continues to increase every year. Like Toyota, which has just presented the latest generation Vellfire HEV.
More and more New Hybrid Cars are being Released in Indonesia
Indeed, unlike electric cars, hybrid cars do not receive incentives or subsidies in the form of price reductions. Whatever the reason, overall sales were not affected, in fact the results were able to outperform the BEV model. As recorded last year, around 50k units of hybrid cars were sold, while electric cars only reached 10k units.
Toyota is still the car brand with the most hybrid models in Indonesia. There are many models on offer, such as the Kijang Innova Zenix, Yaris Cross, Corolla Cross, Camry, Corolla Altis, RAV4 PHEV, and Alphard. Most recently, they presented a new generation of Vellfire which also presents a hybrid variant like its twin.

More Rivals
Apart from Toyota, Suzuki also has hybrid cars, although the models are mild hybrids for the Ertiga, XL7 and Grand Vitara. But at least the three of them were able to contribute quite satisfactory results in the last few months since they were first released. Especially for the XL7 which is its flagship in its segment when none of its rivals have yet presented a hybrid version.
Honda now has a hybrid car that relies on e:HEV technology for the latest generation CR-V and Accord. Wuling and Nissan each have one hybrid model offered as a variant for the Almaz and Kicks. Indeed, there are not that many products, considering that both of them also sell a number of electric cars here.
More and more new models being released means more rivals to face. Even so, a number of manufacturers are not worried about having to compete with each other in a number of existing segments.
