Kawasaki Brings Bimota to Superbike: New Bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team WSBK

RiderTua.com – Kawasaki brings Bimota back to the Superbike World Championship. Bimota is an Italian manufacturer of custom and production bikes (now almost half of the shares are held by Kawasaki). Bimota in 1973 was born in Rimini by Valerio Bianchi, Giuseppe Morri, and Massimo Tamburini. And the surprising news is that in 2025 the Bimota made by the Kawasaki Racing Team will launch at the world superbike racing event (WSBK).

This happened thanks to collaboration with Kawasaki which holds 49.9% of the shares in the Italian company. In next year’s superbike races, we will see bikes with Bimota chassis and Kawasaki engines. In addition to using the Ninja ZX-10RR engine, Kawasaki will transition many of its team members to the Bimota racing program, marking an important moment in the Kawasaki Racing Team’s journey after nearly four decades of involvement in the world’s premier production derivatives championship. The new team will be named ‘Bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team’. The bike will be jointly developed by Bimota and Kawasaki.

Kawasaki Brings Bimota to WSBK

The Bimota manufacturer from Rimini was present in 1988 at the WorldSBK event, almost winning the title with Davide Tardozzi (five wins) and also performing well with Stephane Martens (two wins). In 1989 Giancarlo Falappa achieved three successes and finished in sixth position. After two years of silence, the return of the category in 2000 with a Suzuki-engined motorcycle (SB8R) was entrusted to Anthony Gobert, winner of the race at Phillip Island. In 2014, the latest and final return with the EVO (BB3) motorcycle powered by a BMW engine and collaboration with the Alstare team: not producing the 250 series specimens required by the regulations in time, Bimota participated in the championship without taking points.

The Bimota supported by the Kawasaki Racing Team will pave the track in 2025

President and CEO of Kawasaki Motors Ltd. Hiroshi Ito said… that Bimota has a good reputation in terms of bike design and production. As part of our vision for the evolution of this globally renowned brand, we see competition as the next logical step both in terms of product development and brand visibility on the world stage. Kawasaki’s commitment to WSBK is stronger than ever and they hope this new superbike racing project will excite Kawasaki and Bimota fans.
