VR46 Getting Closer to Yamaha?

RiderTua.com – RiderTua.com – As the season rolls on.. Behind the scenes the Yamaha MotoGP team is not only working on the technical evolution of the Yamaha YZR-M1, but also to find an agreement with the VR46 satellite team for the next MotoGP season as soon as possible… Meanwhile the spearhead of the Garputala team, Fabio Quartararo also talked about satellite teams but did not want to discuss them in depth or too far.

On the sidelines of the Portuguese MotoGP, dialogue between Yamaha and VR46 continued to find agreement for the next few years. Marco Bezzecchi and Fabio Di Giannantonio’s MotoGP season has not started well and this could encourage the Tavullia team to reach an agreement with the Yamaha factory which will of course receive treatment like an official team (similar to Pramac on Ducati). The Valentino Rossi team, already ambassadors for the Japanese brand and linked by a historic collaborative relationship, will however seek technical guarantees of the M1’s competitiveness that are currently difficult to offer. The next few weeks will be a crucial time in making decisions. When asked about the possibility of a second Yamaha team for the 2025 season, Quartararo chose to keep it a secret. However, Quartararo confirmed that he and the team discussed the second team (satellite), but at this time he could not say anything more about it.

Would special concessions to Yamaha make a big difference? Concessions could make a big difference, but Yamaha needs to test them. “More machines, more tests.  You have to be smart and bring in a lot of new parts.  This means you have to build everything in the shortest time possible.  It’s not like before when I was always six months late in getting things done. If there’s nothing to test, they won’t do the test, and I think they understand that,” Quartararo said.

Does losing a satellite team in 2023 also matter? According to Fabio, it is very important to make good use of the second team to improve the bike’s performance. “It’s not like, ‘This is the bike, we can compete with our brand.’ “We need a true satellite team to improve our bike. The bike and rider are riders who are willing to join the factory team to replace me (motivate me),” said the 24 year old rider.

Fabio Quartararo said a few months ago that: When he was at the Petronas satellite team, one thing he really wanted was the position of Maverick Vinales or Valentino Rossi. Because he wants more and that’s what they need in a satellite team. A young and enthusiastic rider who wants to replace him in the factory team. Fabio also likes this as an incentive for him to push his bike even faster.

The Yamaha VR46 Master Camp Team in the Moto2 class is at least a start… let’s wait for Yamaha’s movement to approach the VR46 core team…
