RiderTua.com – Aleix Espargaro is currently in his 20th season in the world motorbike racing championship. In two small classes, each of which is still based on 2-stroke rules, the Spaniard managed to reach the main class with a large energy output. In the premier class, he showed impressive performance. He has been a ‘captain’ for quite a long time, Aleix has entered his 7th year with the Aprilia manufacturer.

The question is, will Aleix remain a permanent starter in MotoGP next year? The rider, who is now 34 years old, is physically very fit thanks to his intensive training on a racing motorbike. And as a senior rider he makes no secret of his thoughts and ideas for the future, where he has several times considered ending his career as a regular rider.

“Of course it came to mind, I would take on the role of test rider. This is a very interesting and important job because it involves understanding and developing the bike as a whole. The importance of this task has increased significantly and a real profession has emerged. And when I think about the rules new, the job sounds more interesting,” explained Aleix Espargaro.

It is true that all manufacturers have a fixed structure in the field of testing and development that absorbs more and more energy every year. KTM is the manufacturer that has the strongest testing team which has 3 top riders as test riders, namely Dani Pedrosa, Pol Espargaro and Jonas Folger and if a fourth test rider is needed then Mika Kallio will immediately step in.

Aprilia also has its own test team, but only one rider, namely Lorenzo Savadori. Against the backdrop of the new generation of MotoGP that will be developed for 2027, a shift in Aleix Espargaro’s role would be logical. Regarding external representation, Aleix is currently trying to keep all options open. It’s time to take a decision in his career.

Recently at Jerez, Aprilia confirmed that there would be further discussions regarding Aleix’s destination at Mugello at the end of May. Until then, Aleix must use his own ability to win again as a benchmark.

If the rider who is currently ranked 8th in the standings decides to take on a new role as an Aprilia test rider, this will have a direct impact on the rider transfer market. Because that way, one of the factory team places which is currently very competitive will be empty. Currently, apart from a place on the Ducati Lenovo, there is no other possibility for the factory rider to achieve victory.

Currently Aprilia is outlining a very interesting job plan for Aleix, including a long-term job and a wildcard. The reason is, the manufacturer needs a top test rider as well as a winning young rider as the second rider. Is the rider in question Jorge Martin?
