RiderTua.com – The course of practice and qualifying for the Jerez GP was not at all satisfactory for Alex Rins, which made the Yamaha rider only occupy the last position on the grid. Worse yet, the Spanish rider finished 15th or penultimate in the sprint at Jerez. This result was achieved because many riders crashed in the 12 lap race.
But Sunday’s main race went better than expected. Rins managed to move forward 5 positions in the first lap. Until the finish line, he remained in 13th position and confidently beat his teammate Fabio Quartararo (finished 15th).
Alex Rins: M1 is tiring and wastes a lot of time and energy

Alex Rins said, “It wasn’t an easy race, but at least it started with a much better start than in the sprint. Then I was behind Fabio Quartararo for a long time and when he had problems I was able to overtake him. It was important to complete the process and collecting a lot of data. For us, every race is also a test. Today, after the warm-up, we made some changes to the set-up of the suspension elements and it worked quite well.”
Even though his performance wasn’t too bad at the Jerez race (P-13), Alex Rins continued to complain about how hard it was to race on an uncompetitive bike. The 28 year old rider revealed that one of the big problems he and Fabio had was the power needed to go very fast.
“It’s really tiring. A lot of time and energy is wasted, especially in areas that require quick changes of direction. I mean, we train hard and some of this can be compensated for with special physical effort. This year from the start I struggled with the arm pump in Qatar and “This is partly caused by excessive force when turning over when changing direction. In general, this is a weakness of the bike that we have to fix,” concluded Rins.
After the first 4 MotoGP series, Alex Rins was only ranked 19th with 6 points in the overall standings. It’s a far cry from when I was still racing with Suzuki or Honda.
