RiderTua.com – Marc Marquez experienced a horror crash at Turn 3 of the Jerez circuit in 2020 and threatened his impressive MotoGP career. He recalled the nightmare 4 years ago that started in Jerez, a very difficult time. I hope my second life starts now. “Positive things come step by step, I am very grateful to the people around me,” said the 31 year old rider.

The 6-time MotoGP world champion continued, “Thanks to Honda for respecting my decision. Also thanks to Gresini and Ducati for giving me the opportunity to race with them this year. I enjoy it and I’m happy. And when I’m happy, I’m fast.”

In Saturday’s sprint at Jerez, Marc Marquez crashed while leading the race. And in Sunday’s main race, he made it difficult for Pecco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo). Marc took the lead and was greeted by the cheers of thousands of fans. But in the last two laps, he seemed no match for Pecco. Marc has been unable to end his drought since his last victory at the Italian GP at the Misano circuit in 2021.

In the end, Baby Alien finished 2nd with a difference of 0.372 seconds from winner Francesco Bagnaia. However, thanks to this podium, a heavy burden seemed to be lifted from his shoulders. After taking the 93rd pole position of his career, Marquez took his 102nd podium in the premier class on Sunday at Jerez and it was the first podium for Ducati.

After the race, Marquez said that he had experienced difficulties before, but he always did his best. His mistake on Saturday was serious, but he stressed he was only human. After the crash he was shocked, in the Moto2 race there are a lot of crashes and you have to be extra careful. It’s time to get on the podium but not crash again. After Austin and the sprint, Marc didn’t want to suffer a third crash in a row, it was too much for a rider.

The Gresini Ducati rider added, “Even so, I had tried everything and I also had speed. When I overtook Bezzecchi, the bike felt amazing, I had good speed. Then I approached Pecco, that was the moment to win the race. He held on with aggressive, but in a good way. That’s the race, he played his cards well. After that I was a lap behind him, the temperature of the front tire was up and it was impossible to brake hard. But I also have to say, that he surprised me with a good record in the last two laps.”

Marquez twice overtook Bagnaia at Turn 9, the tire tracks on the racing clothes of the two world champions were proof of how fierce their fight was. “We collided and were at the limit. He drove aggressively towards me from the inside, I was lucky to see him and was able to correct my bike’s position a little. This is how we prevent an accident,” said Gemma Pinto’s boyfriend.

According to Marquez, Bagnaia is always like that, sometimes it goes well, sometimes it doesn’t. If it doesn’t go well, it might mean zero points for Marquez. But contact in racing is normal. Sometimes Marc touches the opponent, sometimes the opponent touches Marquez. “BTW, I congratulate Pecco on his victory,” concluded Baby Alien.
