RiderTua.com – Some time ago everyone thought that Fabio Quartararo would leave Yamaha (to Aprilia), but the 2021 world champion surprised MotoGP fans by signing a new two-year contract until the end of 2026. Even though he recently seemed mentally lacking sure and the results didn’t satisfy him… It seemed like something gave him the confidence to change his mentality.

Fabio Quartararo seems to be a figure who is shaking up the MotoGP rider market. It is not thought that the 2021 World Champion will take long to decide on his future, but his decline in the last two seasons has been so apparent that he has been thinking about leaving Yamaha, where he has spent six seasons in the top-class MotoGP paddock. ‘El Diablo’ kept his word, as he was one of the first to announce his future (apart from obvious situations such as Pecco Bagnaia‘s contract extension with Ducati), but it was a surprise from him, that in the end, he decided to do more a lot with that Japanese team.

He trusted the Iwata factory and signed a new two-year contract at the end of the 2026 season. A very important signal for the Japanese brand, which has not had the best start in 2024.  Seventh place at the Portimao GP was its best result, and the time gap with the best riders is still very large. That is, between 15 and 20 seconds is probably too far for Sunday’s race.

And that’s what gave everyone the idea that Fabio wanted to migrate to another manufacturer. It is not a coincidence that rumors of a possible move to Aprilia are becoming increasingly widespread. But since the start of the year, the Frenchman has also highlighted how Yamaha’s approach in the pits has changed, particularly thanks to the arrival of Max Bartolini from Ducati, and his more direct, wait-and-see attitude. He has taken on the role of Yamaha technical director and looks to make the most of the new concession system.

And as Quartararo himself explains, that’s what convinced him to continue his partnership with Japan. “I am very happy to announce that I will continue my adventure with Yamaha!…” said Quartararo in this press release issued by Yamaha.

Yamaha showed Quartararo last winter that they have a new approach and a new aggressive mentality. Fabio is confident that Yamaha will return to the top together! Six years ago they gave Quartararo the opportunity to move up to the MotoGP class. Since then they have achieved great things together. “Fabio and Yamaha still have a long way to go to fight for victory again, so… the French rider will work hard and is confident that together they can achieve their dreams again,” concluded the #20 rider.
