RiderTua.com – Pedro Acosta not only shared the same track with 6-time MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez in Qatar, but the rookie from the GasGas Tech3 team also dared to fight against the former Honda rider until he managed to overtake Marquez at the first corner. Even though Acosta was unable to keep up with the leading riders around him, the 19 year old young rider showed extraordinary talent and could only be overtaken by Marquez when he made a mistake.

Talking about Marquez and their fight, Acosta said, “It’s quite fun because in the last few weeks they showed this overtake and on my phone I saw a lot of photos from my first press conference in Jerez a while ago.”

Pedro Acosta added, “Also in 2013 when he won his first world title in MotoGP, I was at the Spanish championship federation and at the trophy party I took a photo with him because this will not happen again for many years. But I am very happy to be able to share the track with him, I really enjoyed learning and to spend 6 or 7 laps behind him in the race was amazing. A dream come true, for sure.”

Before the Portimao GP started, there was speculation that Acosta might need to undergo surgery to correct his arm pump problem. However, Acosta, who returned very quickly in FP1 at Portimao, admitted on Thursday that his arm was fine.

“My arm is fine. If you look at the replay on lap 14 I was smoking tires. It was clear that I was going to suffer in the final part of the race. Also, when I raced in Moto2 with Dunlop tires, we did 24 wide open laps and the strategy “This arose from there. However, that is how it is and we must not make this mistake in the future,” concluded Augusto Fernandez’s new colleague.
