RiderTua.com – Ahead of the start of the 2024 MotoGP season, Marc Marquez was asked if he was ready to start the season as his younger brother Alex’s teammate? And if the 31-year-old rider finished second in the race behind his younger brother, would he try to overtake and risk both crashing?

With a laugh Marc replied, “I bet on finishing 7th last year. It was instinct, but in any case, I would rather apologize than ask permission even if it was my sister.”

The dynamics of the brothers as teammates at Gresini Ducati will be seen during the race. “I’m the one in charge in the garage,” said Alex teasing his older brother.

Then Marc Marquez chimed in, “After we started, we immediately had the first discussion because when we enter the garage, one rider is on the right side and one on the left. My whole sporting career has been on the right side, so when negotiating with the team manager, I said told him that I wanted to be on the right side. But he told me that my brother didn’t want to change places.”

How do they perform as teammates? Marc said that they always try to help the team, even though there is competition because a rider’s first rival is his teammate. They both want to be the best on the track, but this time it’s different because they’re brothers, Marc said.

With a smile, Alex replied, “I have quite tough teammates.”

Marc Marquez’s move from Repsol Honda to Gresini Ducati is a major topic of conversation ahead of the 2024 season which starts on March 8 in Qatar. At first glance, the 8-time world champion showed his satisfaction when riding his new motorbike during the test even though there were still problems that needed to be resolved.

Marc explained, “Every motorbike has its own ‘secret’ when riding it. A motorbike can go very well, but the rider has to ride it one way or another,” he said. Because Marc has been riding a Honda for 11 years, now he has moved to Ducati and he has to change everything so as not to fall into the bad habits of other motorbikes.

“It was very difficult for me to take the decision, but once we took the decision, it was the right decision. It was very difficult for me because there were people there who I had a good relationship with and had worked with me for 11, 12 or 13 years, sponsors “For life. But in an athlete’s life there are times when changes are needed to continue his sporting career and it was my turn to make those changes,” said the rider from Cervera, Spain, who currently lives in Madrid.

Alex Involved in Marc Marquez’s Decision Making?

Marc Marquez joined his younger brother Alex, who a year earlier decided to move from LCR Honda to Gresini. They will ride last year’s Ducati GP23, while the factory team and Pramac riders get the Desmosedici GP24.

Alex revealed that his brother started asking him about Ducati bikes only after he confirmed his move to Gresini. “After that decision, it was really troublesome. He questioned me all day,” Alex said, laughing.

Marc said that before making a decision, he didn’t ask him anything because he didn’t want to be influenced by anything or anyone when making the decision. “I wanted to feel what I really needed and then decide. But once I made the decision, I started asking for information.”

Alex told me about the time his brother asked for advice, that back then, when he was new, he didn’t. But now, yeah. “Now, before making a decision, he always asks me why he is more impulsive and I am more reflective. I can say that I am the only one who listens.”

Regarding his brother’s hopes of winning the title this year, Alex said, “I’m sure if Marc is patient, he can reach a very high position at the end of the year. But we have to be patient.”

Marc added, “I haven’t won a race in 2 years, so I can’t expect to face this year thinking about winning the world title. First I have to collect points, then get a top 5 position, then if I can get on the podium. I have to improve a little little by little.”

Marc Marquez admits he is annoyed because other MotoGP racers are faster than him at the moment. “This annoys me, but that’s the law of life. Every racer has his moment, then he goes down a little, then he extends it and tries to go up again. We have to learn to survive,” concluded Marc.
