Gigi Dall’igna: Ducati is Always at the Forefront

RiderTua.com – Regarding the results of the Portuguese GP, Gigi Dall’Igna commented that he can say that they are always at the forefront in everything in a positive way, but this weekend also with a negative outlook in a race that concentrates all the emotions in two laps final. Francesco Bagnaia’s teammate Enea Bastianini took pole position and then finished 2nd in the main race of the Portuguese GP behind winner Jorge Martin (Pramac). Currently Martin leads the MotoGP standings after being ahead of Brad Binder (KTM) and Bastianini.

Apart from that, the incident between the two riders is also not forgotten… Pecco Bagnaia’s attempt to overtake Marc Marquez which caused them both to crash, was considered a racing incident by Race Direction. Gigi Dall’Igna (Ducati General Manager) said, “It is very regrettable that the incident involving Pecco and Marc, thus depriving both of them of the opportunity to score important points for the standings in a complex race where they were unable to compete for victory. Honestly, what other comments useless.”

From his statement, it can be seen that Dall’Igna was trying to be very careful not to blame any of his riders.

After the incident, Pecco and Marquez both denied that friction would arise afterwards. But like it or not, the clash at Portimao, which is the second series since Marquez joined Ducati, will make the manufacturer from Borgo Panigale dizzy.

The Italian engineer explained that Martin’s tenacious and aggressive rider made his rivals face tough challenges and it was difficult to fight him. A competition with many unknowns, handled and ended with endurance, concentration, stubbornness and never giving up, said Gigi.

“A well-deserved award for the perseverance shown in the race and of course throughout the weekend. Ducati also achieved 2nd place on the podium with Enea, a show of grit and determination for a very worthy result. Today was very important for her to be at the front, he needs it, even more so on a track that he feels is his own. We are at the start of the season and without a doubt, this 2nd place is considered a victory,” added Dall’Igna.

Defending champion Pecco Bagnaia will leave Portimao disappointed, after a mistake cost him victory in the sprint race before crashing out of the main race in a clash with Marquez.

Dall’Igna said that it was a difficult weekend for Pecco, where they couldn’t find the right balance, unlike what Ducati could do in other races. Even though everything seemed to be going well in the sprint race, an error occurred that cost him his chance to win.

The 59-year-old engineer continued, “Uncertain feelings, constant difficulties, all this was finally confirmed in the worst way. We must understand the reasons and find a solution immediately, without worry. This is what matters in the end. However, don’t never let your guard down!”

According to the Ducati boss, this apparently became the main motive at the start of this season. Everyone has seen it and said it all, but it always reminds us how much progress all the riders have made and how many and scary Ducati’s rivals are. Even the younger riders, with their enthusiasm, talent and speed, strive hard and have absolutely no fear. This will be a long and exciting championship, all to be experienced together with the fans, race after thrilling race. “Come on, Ducati!” concluded Luigi Dall’Igna.
