Pedro Acosta: MotoGP Overtake is ‘Easy’ Like Moto3, What a Magic Boy!

RiderTua.com – Pedro Acosta (19 years old) feels very comfortable on his MotoGP prototypebike, even when overtaking he feels like he was still in Moto3… ‘Easy’ means it’s not as difficult as he imagines, whether it’s his bike or his opponent’s that is easy, because the ones he smoked were riders of the caliber of world champions on the board… eh top class… Even the two KTM factory riders themselves (Binder and Miller) were ‘humiliated’… to the point that there were netizens who called them death bastards…

In only his second (main) race in MotoGP, Pedro Acosta managed to climb the podium in 3rd place at the Portuguese GP. The GasGas Tech3 team rookie managed to overtake Marc Marquez and at the same time managed to beat defending champion Pecco Bagnaia. The weekend race at the Algarve circuit was not all smooth sailing for Acosta. On Friday, in 11th place he narrowly missed out on going straight into Q2. But then he managed to place himself in 7th position on the grid in qualifying.

Pedro Acosta: Comfortable when overtaking, feels like when he was still in Moto3

Pedro Acosta warned that he was still outside the top 10 on Friday. The weekend was a challenge for him because this was his first time riding a MotoGP bike. That’s why he was quite far behind on the first day.

In Saturday’s sprint race, Acosta scored points again after finishing 7th. And in the 25 lap main race on Sunday, the 19 year old young rider also had a quite promising start. The 2023 Moto2 world champion maintained his 7th position in the opening laps, after winning against his two KTM brand colleagues Brad Binder and Jack Miller.

Acosta revealed that he only felt comfortable when overtaking. The feeling on the front wheel and the confidence when overtaking reminded him of his days in Moto3 and the Red Bull Rookies Cup. As a result of the crash experienced by Maverick Vinales (Aprilia), he finally climbed the podium in 3rd position.

At just 19 years and 304 days old, Acosta became the 3rd youngest rider in premier class history to achieve this feat. Only Randy Malmo (1970/19 years 261 days) and Eduardo Salatino (1962/19 years 274 days) were younger in their podium debuts. Acosta also managed to displace Marc Marquez, who first climbed the podium as winner at the Qatar GP in 2013 at the age of 20 years 49 days.

Acosta knows that he has a tough character during the race weekend. But the team did a great job in helping him. They can’t imagine how much they work in the afternoons and evenings. The next morning, Pedro was presented with a long list of data showing where he could still improve. He really thanked them for that, concluded Acosta, thanking his team.
