Fabio Quartararo: Compared to the Malaysian Test, There is Little Progress

RiderTua.com – In the 12 lap sprint at Portimao, there were many crash incidents (4 riders) but Fabio Quartararo was not affected by this. The factory Yamaha rider finished the race in 9th position, 7.5 seconds behind winner Maverick Vinales (Aprilia). So far Vinales is satisfied with the results.

“For me, it was a good race. How many sprints have I been in where I finished less than 8 seconds behind the winner? We had different tires and that was quite good. I hope we can give our best in the main race tomorrow,” said El Diablo.

Fabio Quartararo revealed that he was not surprised by the results of his race. He had predicted today’s sprint results, also because he was the only one using medium tires. The French rider had a bad feeling about the soft tire option.

The 24-year-old rider continued, “It was very difficult to warm up the tires in the first few laps, but in the end it was fine.”

Would a full distance main race run better on medium tyres? Alex Rins’ teammate answered, “I don’t know if it will be better. But at least we have experience racing with medium tires. We will also race with the hard front tire tomorrow. But we haven’t tested it and that was our big mistake. But we will make the most of it and gain experience through it. Tomorrow for the race tires it will be hard/medium.”

After finishing 12th in the sprint race in Qatar, this means things look better for Quartararo. Is this just a temporary improvement or long term? Fabio couldn’t feel any improvement after two races. But if their team compares the situation from the first day of testing in Malaysia and now, Quartararo can say that something is moving forward, concluded El Diablo.
