Emotional, BMW Boss Sheds Tears on the Podium: Toprak’s Way of Executing Last Lap Victory Is Extraordinary!

RiderTua.com – BMW’s last race win in 2013, it’s natural that BMW was touched by this 1st podium. Toprak Razgatlioglu managed to win the long race on his debut for BMW at Phillip Island Australia, and followed up this positive result with his first win in the second series of the season this is in Barcelona. Previously, the rider from Turkey won pole position by setting a lap record.

The way Toprak closed the 4.6 second gap on Nicolo Bulega (Ducati) in the final five laps of Saturday’s first race and took the lead on the final lap, was truly sensational. The fact that he managed to beat his compatriots Michael van der Mark (finished 9th), Garret Gerloff (12th) and Scott Redding (17th) at the Catalunya Circuit with a margin of 16.6 and 19.4 and 37 respectively .5 seconds greatly surprised BMW managers.

According to statistics, Toprak Razgatlioglu secured BMW’s first victory since Michael van der Mark’s last victory in the sprint race (wet race) on October 3 2021 in Portimao. Even in long-distance races, BMW’s last victory was achieved on September 1 2013 by Chaz Davies at the Nurburgring.

All these satisfactory results are under the supervision of the new head of BMW Motorrad, Markus Flasch, who is making his first appearance in the Superbike World Championship. He congratulated all the teams on the fantastic win. Flasch also felt happy being able to cheer with the team in the garage. Razgatlioglu has shown that he is a very special rider. The team knows that he has a bike that he can use to win, namely the BMW M1000RR. And it’s incredible that he and BMW were finally able to prove it in the second race of the weekend. “It can continue like this,” said the Austrian boss.

For your information, BMW motorsport director Marc Bongers has had to receive a lot of criticism because he is considered less successful since returning in 2019. Now in the 2024 season, he is standing on the podium with Toprak and is seen shedding tears. “We know that we are strong, but we also know that against Ducati it will be very difficult,” said the 52-year-old boss.

Then Bongers revealed that in the morning he was optimistic that he would have two riders in the first two rows of the grid. This has become a reality. Then he believes they can fight for the podium. Actually Bongers would also be very happy even with only 2nd place.

“But the way Toprak moved the bike in the last lap was extraordinary. Thanks to him, thanks to the team for an extraordinary package. We deserved it, but I didn’t expect it to happen this quickly. So I’m very satisfied. Now we concentrate on Sunday, there are still two more races and then we will celebrate,” concluded Bongers happily.
