Berlangsung di Sirkuit Jerez de la Frontera, Spanyol, ‘Lowes’ menorehkan catatan waktu terbaik, 1 menit 41.170 detik, pada hari Jumat. Sedangkan dibelakang pembalap asal Inggris itu, Somkiat Chantra (IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia) dan Alonso Lopez (CAG SpeedUp) melengkapi jajaran ‘top three’ pada sesi latihan bebas pertama Moto2 ini.
Pembalap Red Bull KTM Ajo, Pedro Acosta menduduki posisi tercepat keempat pada FP1 Moto2 Spanyol ini. Dia membukukan waktu 1 menit 41.497 detik. Kemudian diikuti Jake Dixon (Inde GASGAS Aspar M2) sebagai penghuni lima besar.
Catatan waktu terbaik keenam berhasil ditorehkan oleh pembalap Red Bull KTM Ajo, Albert Arenas dengan lebih lambat +0.737 detik dari pembalap tercepat di sesi ini. Rider berkebangsaan Spanyol ini sukses melakukan time attack dengan catatan waktu 1 menit 41.907 detik. Di posisi ketujuh ada Celestino Vietti yang menggawangi Fantic Racing, berhasil menorehkan catatan waktu terbaiknya dengan 1 menit 41.963 detik. Diposisi kedelapan Aron Canet (Pons Wegow Los40) dengan torehan waktu 1 menit 42.018 detik.
